FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A few of the many advantages include saving time and money associated with strenuous yard work, improving your lifestyle and helping with environmental issues.

Low Maintenance – Saving you time and money on up-keep. This advantage applies to everyone; especially homeowners, the elderly for whom maintenance is not sensible, holiday/second homeowners and even city organisations that have to maintain roadside medians, city parks and pathways.

No Watering – Ideal for locations where water is scarce or areas where hosepipes/sprinklers are banned.

Easier on the Environment – No need for pesticides, fertilisers or mowing.

Highly Durable – Ideal for those ‘heavy-use’ areas. Say goodbye to slippery, muddy areas; and no more muddy shoe marks or muddy paw prints to clean up!

Green All Year Round – Our turf will be aesthetically pleasing no matter what time of year. No need to worry about weeds popping up or yellow/brown patches.

Clean & Hygienically Safe – No more dirt or mud, and cleaning up after your pets is simple and easy!

We recommend most of our artificial turf varieties require an ‘infill’ to help ballast the grass down, absorb moisture from the surface and help the fibres remain upright. Sand is the perfect filler as it is typically readily available, doesn’t contain chemicals and is fire resistant.
During the installation process your artificial grass is joined where necessary, with adhesives and tapes specific for the application, is pinned or glued around the edges of your yard and has a ballast layer of sand infill.
Your pets will love our grass! They will most likely treat it just as they would natural grass, with the added benefit of no digging. Any pet droppings are simple and easy to remove or wash away. If your grass will receive heavy use from pets, as it would in kennels, we recommend spraying disinfectant periodically to help remove any smells and kill bacteria. However, if your grass will only receive light use, this cleaning process is rarely necessary.
Exceptionally well! We recommend our 40mm turf as a better option than natural grass in many ways; dogs cannot dig it up, muddy themselves or cause it any legitimate damage when installed correctly with the recommended infill level maintained.
All our artificial grass products come with an 8-year UV warranty. We know from experience your synthetic grass backyard will last even 20-years, subject to wear and tear, when installed and maintained correctly.
This is not generally recommended as the existing grass will die off and shrink down to be uneven or spotty. This will reflect through resulting in your artificial turf being uneven.

You can lay your artificial grass on many types of bases. Asphalt and concrete are great harder surfaces to use as your base. If you are laying your grass outside, it’s generally better for your base to be porous.

If you plan to use concrete as your base, you must be careful that any slab edges don’t show through. and we recommend adding a slight slope to help with water run-off. An alternative would be installing a simple drainage system under the surface.

Many of our customers have laid our artificial turf on decking. This is a great option, but we recommend laying plywood down first to create a completely flat surface. Otherwise, over time your grass will start to settle into the gaps, creating ridges and spoiling your beautiful space.

Generally speaking, a mild detergent is the best solution to use for cleaning; yes, warm soapy water. Be sure to avoid using products which are acidic in nature (ie. pH less than 3.0) or have oxidising properties (like peroxide or bleach).
Your synthetic turf requires very little maintenance; the main criteria is to remove dirt and debris as you find it. You can use an outdoor broom or rake to remove any debris on the grass and smooth out any infill you have. Periodically using a garden rake will also help with realigning the fibres for a cleaner and more natural look. Since our artificial grasses are permeable, rainwater will run through the backing, while cleaning it at the same time.
Installing artificial turf on a slope is possible, but if you plan to walk on the grass the slope must be less than 15%. However, you can still install our grass on slopes over 15% as long as there will be absolutely no foot traffic. When installing on a slope, it’s important to select a grass that doesn’t require a sand infill due to the sand moving down the slope over time. A safe alternative would be to use pins to secure your sloped artificial turf.
Ideally, we do not recommend using a barbeque directly on top of your artificial grass surface. It is however possible if you place down a protective layer to prevent hot oils, coals etc; from dripping onto the fibre of your turf.
Watering down your synthetic grass is not necessary unless you’re spraying it down for a quick cleaning or happen to live in a location with extreme conditions where the base layer is prone to split and crack.
Strangely enough, the answer is yes they can. The backing layer does have perforation holes for drainage and on the rare occasion a weed has been known to make its way through. In most cases, the weed has germinated on top. The sand infill may provide a hydroponic environment for seeds to germinate and root. However, the backing we use for our grass products is designed to prevent roots from growing through so if any weeds pop up, you can simply pull them out.
Artificial grass is a sterile environment. However, it is possible over time for small debris and nutrients to accumulate within the infill to support a small number of insects. Even though this is a possibility, you would still have far less insects than you would find in natural grass. If you enjoy and want to encourage visits from local wildlife, you can build natural borders and add native flowers around the area. You can also install bird feeders and baths so birds can come along and enjoy your space too!

The most common uses for artificial grass are for lawns and landscaping. A similar form of synthetic turf is used on surfaces where sports are played like tennis courts, putting greens and rugby/football pitches.

However, there are many other uses for our artificial grass products, including:

  • Roof Gardens
  • Decking
  • Patios
  • Balconies
  • Walkways, both permanent and temporary
  • Caravan and tent entrances
  • Outdoor staircases
  • Swimming pool surroundings – Because the chlorine in pools can discolour the grass, we recommend leaving at least a metre between the pool and artificial grass.
  • Children’s playgrounds and play areas at schools or nurseries
  • Pet-friendly areas, dog exercise runs and kennels
  • Garages
  • Exhibition spaces
  • Shopping centres
  • Showrooms – cars, boats and garden centres

Choosing the right artificial grass for your usage application is key to the longevity of your product. Synthetic grass is no different to the carpet in your house and heavy use areas will flatten over time. Regular brushing and maintaining infill depths help prevent the flattening process. Remember, although artificial grass is not completely maintenance-free, it only requires little maintenance.

Our artificial grass products are soft and springy, and some can provide more bounce than natural grass. On those hot Australian summer days, the grass will be noticeably warmer under your feet while in full sun.

In order to prevent weed growth when laying your artificial grass on an existing grass profile, it is important to use a Geotextile Membrane as an underlay.

As long as your decking has been properly treated prior to grass installation, it will not rot. We also recommend a treated hardboard such as plywood be laid on top of your decking surface to prevent the grooves in the decking from creating creases or damaging your artificial grass.
